Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler is currently recruiting for a Commissioning Manager with extensive experience in the mining and minerals industry to be based on site in Mauritania.


  • Formulate Commissioning Plan together with Construction and Project Manager
  • Liaise with Construction and Project Manager to plan day to day running of plant commissioning
  • Liaise with the Client regarding commissioning activities
  • Communicate with vendors with regards to issues regarding commissioning of various vendor supplied materials
  • Provide updates to all vendors including installation progress, problems, and site requirements for commissioning
  • Consider the HR concerns of the commissioning team, including interviewing members of the teams
  • Manage a team of onsite commissioning crew, including delegation of various duties to the crew
  • Ensure safety standards are adhered to at all times during commissioning
  • Manage day to day of the commissioning process, from pre-commissioning inspection and check-listing, water commissioning to hot commissioning
  • Manage with the assistance of QA / QC the preparation and issuing of Commissioning Document (C1, C2, C3 forms)
  • Manage with the assistance of QA / QC the preparation and issuing of handover documents
  • Manage handover of commissioned equipment to the Client
  • Manage Plant Ramp Up and Optimization in liaison with the Process Engineer
  • Report weekly progress to Project Manager and Client

Skills / Qualifications

  • A BSC degree in Metallurgical or Chemical engineering degree or a B Tech. Diploma in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering
  • A minimum of 15 years’ working experience in a project engineering environment, preferably within the resources / minerals processing industry in Africa
  • Advanced computer literacy skills in MS Office
  • Experience in managing relationships with clients, contractors and service providers
  • Excellent English language skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to travel locally and / or internationally, as required
  • Ability to work and live in hardship locations, as required, when visiting project sites
