Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure has a career opportunity available in our Denver, CO office for a Mid-Level or Senior Water Resources Engineer to support FEMA Risk MAP (Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning) activities, transportation drainage and bridge projects, and other similar water resources projects throughout the state of Colorado.  On a daily basis, the selected candidate with work closely with team members, both locally and nationally, towards the successful completion of a variety of Risk MAP products and other water resources projects.


Key Responsibilities

  • Will work under the supervision of a Senior Engineer / Engineering Manager supporting our hydraulics and hydrology group
  • Working as part of a project team, will contribute to the development of hydrologic and hydraulic models of open and closed systems, flood hazard mitigation analysis, risk data analysis, GIS analysis, and preparation of planning reports
  • Tasks include H&H modeling with GeoHMS, GeoRAS, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS, as well as other H&H software, for FEMA Flood Insurance Studies to establish flood hazard engineering and mapping
  • Will also support transportation engineering, drainage engineering, stream restoration design, and floodplain management work
  • Convey results and findings by means of oral discussions, graphic-based presentations, and project documentation
  • Mentoring and helping oversee the development of junior staff
  • Will travel to project sites in Colorado and will attend public meetings

Skills / Qualifications

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related engineering degree required; MS preferred
  • Colorado PE or the ability to attain it within 1 years is required
  • 6 to 15 years + of hydrology / hydraulics and water resources experience
  • Must be a self-starter with good written and verbal communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff in a team environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Experience using HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, EPASWMM, HY-8 software
  • Experience using ArcGIS
  • Experience with MicroStation / Geopak and / or AutoCAD a plus
  • Familiarity with the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA flood insurance study regulations
  • Must pass drug test, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
